Chrissie Hynde isn't going solo this time; she's released a duets collection. This exciting project features collaborations with a diverse range of artists. Think of it as a musical feast with some of the most exciting names in the industry!
Album of the Week: Chrissie Hynde & Pals, “Duets Special” (Rhino/Parlophone).
The Akron native, known for her sometimes-gritty persona, proves she can indeed play well with others. This album is a collection of 13 cover collaborations, following her 2021 album of Bob Dylan songs. She teams up with a stellar lineup including Debbie Harry, k.d. lang, Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode, and the late Mark Lanegan. She also collaborates with proteges like Cat Power, Brandon Flowers of The Killers, and Shirley Manson of Garbage.
One of the standout tracks features Hynde and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, also from Akron, covering the Righteous Brothers' classic, "(You're My) Soul and Inspiration." The album also includes contributions from Julian Lennon, Rufus Wainwright, Carleen Anderson, and Low’s Alan Sparhawk.
But here's where it gets interesting... This album showcases Hynde's versatility and ability to connect with artists across generations and genres. It's a testament to her enduring influence and her willingness to explore new musical territories.
